City Group got Pre-Qualification license for economic zone in Rupganj

Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA) has granted pre-qualification license to City Group to set up an economic zone in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district.BEZA informed this information in a press release on Thursday.

This approval was given to the organization of City Group ‘Purbagaon Economic Zone’ to set up an economic zone in a function organized at the conference hall of BEZA. BEZA Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Haroon was present in the licensing ceremony along with City Group Chairman Fazlur Rahman and senior officials of BEZA and City.

According to Beja, Purbagaon Economic Zone will be built on 94 acres of land in Kayetpara Union of the upazila, which is planned to be increased to 150 acres in the future. Steel mills, chemicals and ceramic industries will be set up in this economic zone.

Being located near the Dhaka-Sylhet highway and on the banks of Shitalakshya river, this economic zone has good connectivity by sea and road.It is located 25 km from the capital and 180 km from Chittagong port.

Chairman of City Group Fazlur Rahman said at the licensing ceremony that an initial investment of 10,000 crores will be made in the establishment of Purbagaon Economic Zone. It will provide employment to around 11,000 people. He said that industrial construction work will be started there after getting the final license after all kinds of survey work within the next five months.

BEZA Executive Chairman Sheikh Yusuf Harun said, being close to Dhaka, Purgaon Economic Zone will get a huge response from local and foreign entrepreneurs.He expressed hope that the feasibility study and environmental impact study of this economic zone will be completed soon and the industrial construction work will start with the final license.

BEZA has given preliminary approval to 20 private economic zones. Of these, 12 private economic zones have been given final licenses. In these economic zones, about 4 billion or 4 billion US dollars have already been invested and 35 thousand people have been employed.
