The Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) held a day-long “Career and Networking Day” with the participation of 110 companies and institutions from different sectors on 8 February.

According to a press release, the Deputy Minister for Education, Mohibul Hassan Chowdhoury, attended an event held on the IUB campus at Bashundhara residential area, where he visited the stalls and spoke at the closing ceremony as the chief guest.

The event was organized by the IUB Office of Career Guidance, Placement and Alumni Relations.

During his speech, Mohibul Hassan emphasized the importance of students gaining various skills through training, regardless of their majors, to avoid unemployment after graduation.

He also mentioned that employers now prioritize skills over certificates, and therefore, universities should take steps to acquaint their students with the world of work by bringing in professionals to share their experience in the classrooms.

The Chairman of the IUB Board of Trustees, Abdul Hai Sarker, also highlighted the need to develop students in a way that enables them to be successful in their work life after completing their studies.

Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Tanweer Hasan, stated that industry and academia collaboration is a nationally discussed topic and one of the main aims of the event was to groom the students to be at the center of the job market.

He also added that the event provided opportunities for students to network and explore and helped tailor them to cope with the needs of companies.
