Uber, the popular ridesharing app, has introduced a subscription package option for Uber Moto drivers in Bangladesh. This subscription model allows drivers to choose from various plans that best suit their needs, aiming to enhance driver reliability and reduce trips taken off the platform.

Uber’s objective is to decrease the number of drivers requesting riders to pay them directly and take trips “offline.” These off-platform requests, locally known as ‘khep’ trips, often lead to ride cancellations and a subpar experience for both drivers and riders. Moreover, such trips lack the safety features and insurance coverage provided by the Uber app.

With the new subscription system, drivers will pay a 0% service fee on all trips after selecting a driving subscription package that aligns with their preferences. In Dhaka, thousands of Uber Moto drivers operate daily, and this subscription service is expected to improve the experience for both drivers and riders while enhancing safety and security on the streets.

“We understand the safety risks associated with street hail and off-app trips. Subscriptions will improve the experience for drivers and riders alike. Drivers are at the heart of our business. We will continue to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for them while prioritising safety, innovation and convenience,” says Abhishek Padhye, Head of City Operations, Uber India and South Asia.

The subscriptions are accessible through the latest version of the driver app and come in various durations, including daily and three-day subscriptions. Drivers will enjoy unlimited offers and trips within the subscription period.
