For the first time, Google Pay (Google Wallet) has officially launched in Bangladesh, marking a major step forward in the country’s move toward a cashless digital economy.
The service was introduced through a strategic partnership between Google, City Bank, Mastercard, and Visa. City Bank becomes the first bank in Bangladesh to offer Google’s digital wallet service to its customers. The launch event took place at The Westin Dhaka, with prominent figures in attendance including Dr. Ahsan H Mansur, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, and Tracy Ann Jacobson, Chargé d’affaires of the US Embassy in Dhaka.
With this launch, City Bank customers can now link their Mastercard or Visa credit and debit cards to Google Wallet, enabling fast, secure, and contactless payments via Android smartphones at NFC-enabled POS terminals both in Bangladesh and abroad.
Google Pay ensures enhanced security through advanced encryption technology, eliminating the need for physical cards and turning smartphones into fully functional digital wallets for shopping, travel, and more.
