Bangladesh’s first carpooling app ZigZag Car to serve long distance

ZigZag Car, a carpooling platform, is set to debut in Bangladesh as a way to share a car with other passengers who are traveling in the same direction. The app-based service will serve long-distance passengers, potentially easing congestion on the roads while also saving money for those using the service.

By carpooling, the passengers can take three cars off the road. The concept is very simple, but the effect it has on reducing traffic congestion and carbon dioxide is significant.

Carpooling services are increasingly being used as a measure to go green and protect the earth from the greenhouse effect. Activists have been advocating for less use of cars and this online carpooling service is coming to the forefront in many countries, from the Middle East to India.

The officials of the platform claim that the service will connect drivers and passengers on the same routes by using GPS navigation on its mobile app, which is powered by artificial intelligence.

The car will pick up the passenger from their location and drop them at their destination without any hassle of searching vehicles midway.

ZigZag Car Co-Founder and CEO KM Aminur Rahman said that the digital platform will allow users to experience premium mobility on fixed routes prior to reserve and in-app payment.

“The app will verify the driver and passenger digitally and connect them with social links to know each other as a community practice. The app will lead to the best practices of automobiles in a sustainable way,” he said.

Zigzag Car is an app-based service that promises insurance coverage for all of its drivers and passengers. Here’s how it works:

Zigzag Car allows drivers and passengers to share the same route. For example, if someone traveling from Chittagong to Dhaka posts their trip schedule on Zigzag Car, then other users who want to ride along the same route can join in and split the cost.

Zigzag Car acts as a matchmaker between passengers and drivers, making it a convenient and cost-effective way to travel.

Zigzag Car is building innovation in a way that enabled the ridesharing revolution to take off.

With smartphones, people can now offer or book seats on the go. With user profiles and social networks, people can get to know each other online before meeting en route.

The co-founder of Zigzag Car, Mr. Kamal Hossain Chowdhury, dreams to develop a mobility tech from Bangladesh which will serve the global arena in near future, leveraging local talent pools.

The number of private passenger cars registered in Bangladesh stood at 394.09 thousand as of August this year, according to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA). A further 113.53 thousand microbuses were also registered during this period.
