Runner to launch locally-made Auto-Rickshaws
Runner Automobiles is launching Bangladesh’s first locally made three-wheeled auto-rickshaw on February 11. The majority of the vehicle, excluding some engine components, has been manufactured in Bangladesh with technical assistance from Indian automaker Bajaj Auto.
According to global standards, a vehicle is considered locally made if at least 30% of its components are produced in the country of origin.
The manufacturing process at Runner’s factory in Bhaluka, Mymensingh, has been closely monitored by experts from Bajaj, who have also carried out test runs of the LPG and CNG-powered vehicle.
Runner officials have announced that the vehicle will be priced at least 15% lower than the imported auto-rickshaws, which can cost upwards of Tk 6 lakh.
According to the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority, an average of 16,500 three-wheelers have been registered annually over the past 12 years.
The Runner factory, which was built on 9.2 acres of land at a cost of Tk 300 crore, has the capacity to produce 30,000 vehicles annually to fulfill both local and international demand. It has provided employment to 300 individuals.
The factory is equipped with state-of-the-art welding lines, electrochemical painting processes, automated slot conveyors, pneumatic guns with torque control, dynamometers, and suspension and engine testing equipment.
“I am confident that this plant will transform the automobile industry in the country and bring substantial economic benefits,” stated Hafizur Rahman Khan, the chairman of the Runner Group.
“According to Khan, with government policy support, the vehicles can be exported globally,” he stated. He also added, “Our factory workforce is highly skilled and competent.” Runner emphasizes that the brand strives to compete with well-known international brands by ensuring top-notch quality throughout the production process and providing excellent after-sales service.
