Arisans of Ayesha Abed Foundation to get wages through bKash
The Ayesha Abed Foundation’s craft production centre, Aarong, will be disbursing wages to its more than 20,000 artisans across 14 districts in Bangladesh.
By doing this, these artisans – the majority of which are women – will receive their monthly wages directly into their bKash wallets. This is a step forward in ensuring that these workers are paid fairly and on time.
The digital wage disbursement through bKash will be more convenient for the artisans and more affordable and easier to manage for the foundation.
Artisans will be able to access a variety of services after receiving their wages in their bKash account, such as mobile recharge, utility bill payment, shop payment, and loan and savings schemes from banks and financial institutions.
By partnering with bKash, Ayesha Abed Foundation will help artisans – mostly women – to have more financial freedom and empowerment. The artisans will be able to cash out their wages from the bKash “Priyo” agents without any cost. This agreement was signed at the city’s Aarong Centre by D Sasikumar, head of Ayesha Abed Foundation and Ali Ahmmed, CCO of bKash.
The Ayesha Abed Foundation (AAF) was established in 1982 to commemorate the memory and work of the late Ayesha Abed, a Brac staff member and spouse of the late Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder of Brac.
The foundation has 15 main centres and more than 700 sub-centres across the country. On this day, Kamal Quadir, CEO of bKash, Tamara Hasan Abed, chairperson of the Ayesha Abed Foundation and other senior officials were present at the event.
