Bangladesh could import gas from Mozambique
There is potential for Bangladesh and Mozambique to increase bilateral trade in various sectors, said MA Momen, vice-president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), yesterday.
He stated that Bangladesh could import gas from Mozambique and that both countries were strategic business hubs that could benefit from a more robust trade and economic partnership.
Momen was addressing a meeting with a business delegation from Mozambique at the FBCCI office in Dhaka.
The presence of Bangladesh in Africa is due in large part to the contribution of our peacekeeping forces, said Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, senior vice president of the FBCCI. We are now trying to increase business ties with the southern economic bloc by enhancing trade and investment, he said.
Our competitive strengths in apparel, leather goods, pharmaceuticals, frozen seafood, plastic products, ceramics, jute and leather products, home appliances and others are leading the way for business diversification, he said.
There is great potential for economic cooperation between Mozambique and Bangladesh, and we are here to explore areas where we can work together. Jose Matsinha, director general for Asia and Oceania at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique, led the five-member delegation.
“He added that Bangladesh has expertise in areas where Mozambique lacks experience, such as agriculture, and that reciprocal agreements could be beneficial for both countries. “We have a lot of land and water in Mozambique, but we don’t have the same level of expertise as Bangladesh. They could help us out in the agriculture sector, and we could offer them something in return,” he said.
