Banglalink, a telecom company, won the ‘Best Sustainability Excellence Initiative’ award at the ‘Bangladesh Sustainability Excellence Awards 2023.’ The award was given by The Daily Star and CSR Window Bangladesh.
Banglalink got this award because it helped society by using a special Early Warning System in their MyBL Super App during Cyclone Mocha. This cyclone hit Bangladesh earlier this year.
The CEO of Banglalink, Erik Aas, and Taimur Rahman, who is in charge of corporate and regulatory affairs at Banglalink, accepted the award for their company at a ceremony held in Le Méridien Dhaka today. This shows that Banglalink always tries to help society through creative projects.
The MyBL Super App had a feature called Cyclone Tracker which let smartphone users know if they were near the path of the cyclone. This allowed them to take steps to stay safe from the storm. Besides this, Banglalink also made sure people had good internet connection and sent out real-time updates about the cyclone through their app for smartphone users and through text messages for those with regular phones.

The most important part of the project isn’t just about numbers, it’s about how many people were saved and helped by the early warning system. Banglalink’s effort gave communities a chance to get ready and find a safe place when Cyclone Mocha came. This really helped save lives and lessen the damage from the cyclone. Erik Aas, who is in charge of Banglalink, said they really care about their community and want to make life better for everyone.

They also want their community to grow with their company. The Early Warning System was really important because it told people ahead of time where the cyclone would be and what it would do. They got an award for this work, but they’ll keep coming up with new ways to help communities and society.
