Imdadul Haque Milan, editor-in-chief of Kaler Kantho, accepted the award from Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on behalf of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan on Wednesday (11 January) at a gala event at the Pan Pacific Dhaka, according to a press release.

In honor of World Human Rights Day and Great Victory Day, the Bureau of Human Rights Bangladesh (BHRB) recognized Bashundhara Group as one of ten individuals and organizations.

The Ministry of Health and Family Planning, Bashundhara Group, Beximco Group, Prothom Alo, and JMI Group are the awardee organizations. Cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, councilor Maksudul Alam Khandaker Khorshed of Narayanganj City Corporation, managing director Aminur Rahman of Hotels International, mayor Ramzan Ali of Manikganj Municipality, and musician Tasrif Khan were the recipients of individual honors.

Former Chief Justice Md Tafazzul Islam opened the program, and Vice-Chancellor of Global University of Bangladesh Prof. Anisuzzaman gave the keynote address.

Additionally present at the meeting presided over by BHRB chairman and justice Abu Bakar Siddique was Bashundhara Group media advisor Mohammad Abu Tayeb. The function’s opening remarks were delivered by the secretary general of BHRB.

Speaking at the event, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan praised BHRB’s work honoring notable individuals and companies for their outstanding performance during the coronavirus pandemic.

“The majority of human rights organizations engage in criticism. For the advancement of social justice, Human Rights Bangladesh served as a model. They offered me the chance to introduce myself with such educated characters, and I’m proud of them for that “said he.

Dr. Prof. Sharfuddin Ahmed, vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), Cardinal Patrick Rozario, additional secretary for the Health Ministry Aminur Rahman, and JMI Group chairman Abdur Razzaq were also present.

Imdadul Haque Milan responded by claiming that the social initiatives of the Bashundhara Group cannot be adequately conveyed in a short amount of time because the organization’s chairman, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, established an example of social responsibility from behind the scenes. “The Bashundhara Group is committed to upholding its mission and helping the nation’s socioeconomic growth from the beginning. The nation will profit in the long run if other business conglomerates in the nation emulate Bashundhara’s actions “added he.

Mohammad Shahjahan, the secretary general of the BHRB, praised the Bashundhara Group and its chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan for continuing social activities throughout the pandemic in the award brief.

The Bashundhara Group has built the largest corona treatment facility, given personal protective equipment to the armed services, law enforcement, and coast guards, and distributed food to the hungry. These accomplishments have helped the group build a solid reputation both at home and abroad. The activities include helping to ensure the welfare of the populace during the coronavirus pandemic, offering free eye care and educational opportunities to the nation’s disadvantaged and mentally challenged children, etc.

In order to ensure that corona patients receive proper care, the industrial group also gave space for constructing a temporary hospital in its International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB).
