Bata Bangladesh has appointed Debabrata Mukherjee as Managing Director
Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited has appointed Debabrata Mukherjee as Managing Director. Debabrata Mukherjee was previously Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer of Emami Agrotech, the edible oil and biodiesel arm of the Emami Group of India.
Bata Bangladesh said on Wednesday that Debabrata Mukherjee will join the company on August 13, 2023. Anirban Asit Kumar Ghosh is currently serving as the Managing Director of Bata Bangladesh.
The price of Bata Bangladesh crossed one thousand taka per share on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Wednesday. In the first half of this year, Bata Bangladesh made the highest revenue in their history.
The multinational footwear maker cited an increase in consumer spending on new clothes and shoes during Eid as the reason for the record earnings. According to stock exchange filings, the country’s branded footwear market leader earned Tk 566.64 crore from the sale of shoes during the January-June period. During this period the company made a net profit of Tk 43.87 crore. At the end of the first half, Bata Bangladesh’s earnings per share stood at Tk 32.07, which is 31 percent higher than the previous year.

Bata started their journey in Bangladesh in 1962. Currently, the company has two manufacturing plants on the outskirts of the capital—one in Tongi, the other in Dhamrai. The two factories have a daily production capacity of 1.60 lakh pairs of shoes.
According to the information provided on the company’s website, their annual sales of shoes are currently around three crore pairs. Bata Bangladesh is a subsidiary of Baffin (Netherlands) BV in the Netherlands.
The company paid a 365 percent cash dividend to shareholders in 2022.
