Biman Bangladesh Airlines reported a net profit of Tk 2.82 billion for the fiscal year 2023-24, with total revenue reaching Tk 105.75 billion. The announcement was made on Monday, following the airline’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday.

The meeting, chaired by Board of Directors Chairman Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, was attended by board members and representatives from various government ministries, including Civil Aviation, Finance, and Commerce.

Biman recorded an operational profit of Tk 15.56 billion, reflecting a 9.5% year-on-year growth. However, currency fluctuations and tax expenses affected net earnings.

The national flag carrier marked its fourth consecutive year of profitability since the pandemic, achieving net profits in eight of the last ten fiscal years. In FY 2023-24, Biman transported 3.36 million passengers across 30 destinations and earned Tk 6.37 billion from 43,044 tonnes of cargo, a 60% increase from the previous year.

The airline also handled 6.64 million passengers and 350,222 tonnes of cargo at Shahjalal International Airport, showcasing significant growth in its ground handling services.

Over its 53-year history, Biman has avoided government subsidies, fully funding the purchase of 13 new aircraft. By November 2024, it repaid Tk 125.74 billion in loans and interest, including Tk 12.74 billion during FY 2023-24 alone.
