Bjarke Mikkelsen, the founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Daraz Group, has resigned from his position, citing personal reasons, according to an official statement posted on the e-commerce group’s website today.
In the wake of Mikkelsen’s departure, James Dong, who currently serves as the CEO of Lazada Group, will assume the role of CEO at Daraz, in addition to his existing responsibilities. Both Daraz and Lazada operate as sister companies in the South Asian and Southeast Asian regions.
Bjarke Mikkelsen, credited with overseeing the growth of Daraz Group across five South Asian markets, including Bangladesh, expressed his commitment to building a resilient business during his tenure. He stated, “My North Star has always been to build Daraz into a business that is strong enough to survive in our markets for the long term.”

Mikkelsen conveyed confidence in the incoming CEO’s ability to facilitate a deeper integration between Daraz and its sister companies.
Established in 2015, Daraz Group has evolved into the leading e-commerce platform in South Asia, providing a technological platform that empowers hundreds of thousands of small and medium enterprises to expand their businesses. The e-commerce giant commenced operations in Bangladesh in October 2015.
