Gold industry set to lead country’s dev journey: Sayem Sobhan Anvir

Bashundhara Group Managing Director and Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) President Sayem Sobhan Anvir said on Thursday that the gold industry is prepared to take the lead in developing the country.

“I organised members across the country so that the industry, a family of 40,000 members, would be ready to lead the country’s development journey,” Anvir said at a function marking the anniversary of current executive committee of the organisation at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in Dhaka.

The director of the Bashundhara Group, Sabrina Sobhan, was the guest of honor at the event. The president of BAJUS, Anvir, mentioned that the Bashundhara Group is ready to establish any industry in the country as the government has been supporting businesses with wise policies.

“We are setting up a cutting-edge gold refinery with a goal to produce 12,000 bhories of the precious metal. In a five year roadmap, we’ll produce 30,000 bhories of gold. It will create 40,000 jobs,” he said.

Before the cultural function, BAJUS launched a mobile application for the gold industry called Gold Rush. The app shares realtime market rates and notice of the trade body while members can pay fees by logging into the digital platform from Android and iOS powered smartphones.

The cultural function, on eve of the glorious Victory Day, began with national anthem recalling the contribution of valiant freedom fighters during the liberation war.

The conference was attended by top leaders from the upazila and district units of BAJUS, as well as members of the central committee. Following the conference, there was a music performance by folk singer Momtaz Begom and other singers.

Former BAJUS president Enamul Haque Khan shared guidelines on how to purchase old gold from individuals, with their identity and memo.

Vice-President Gulzar Ahmed said that the trade body has been continuing talks with banks and financial institutions in order to ease credit for gold traders.

General Secretary Dilip Kumar Agarwala said that the BAJUS members have been working together to increase the contribution of the gold industry to the gross domestic product of the country.
