History of ISPAHANI

The Ispahani have been actively engaged in business across South Asia since 1820. In 1900, Mirza Mohammed Ispahani established the Calcutta office of M.M. Ispahani & Sons. Later, in 1918, Mirza Ahmed Ispahani, Mirza Mohammed Ispahani’s eldest son, joined the partnership.

Alongside his younger brothers, Mirza Abol Hassan Ispahani and Mirza Mahmood Ispahani, he established the private limited company, M.M. Ispahani Limited, in 1934. In 1947, the corporate Head Office was relocated to Chittagong, where it stands today.

The Ispahani Group operates through its tea, textile, jute, property, poultry, and shipping divisions and employs approximately 10,000 individuals, with corporate offices in Chittagong, Dhaka, and Khulna.

As a pioneering entity, the Ispahani Group has garnered immense success and earned a reputable position as one of the leading business houses in Bangladesh. It holds the distinction of being the largest tea trading company in the country, enjoying a dominant presence in the domestic tea market.

The company captures around 50% of the national branded tea market and 80% of the branded tea-bag market. Ispahani Tea is highly regarded throughout Bangladesh, and its popular brands like Mirzapore Best Leaf and Mirzapore Double Chamber Tea Bags have become household names.

The company boasts an unparalleled distribution network comprising over 517 sales centers, with 24 Divisional offices in various locations such as Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, and others. Additionally, it owns four exceptional tea gardens in Bangladesh – Ghazipore, Mirzapore, Zareen, and Neptune – equipped with state-of-the-art tea manufacturing machinery.

Corporate and social responsibility hold significant importance in the Ispahani philosophy. Throughout its history, the group has actively supported and promoted worthwhile causes. It has established schools and colleges across Bangladesh and is renowned for its Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital.

This esteemed institution is dedicated to providing modern, efficient, and cost-effective eye care, including subsidized rates for underprivileged patients. With a team of up to 50 ophthalmic surgeons, along with doctors, trained nurses, paramedics, and support staff, the Islamia Eye Institute and Hospital has been serving the eye care needs of hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis since its inception in 1960.

Moreover, the Ispahani Group actively supports a range of sports tournaments including cricket, football, golf, and tennis, along with the National Cricket League.
