Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate welcomes teams from Ohio State University and Indiana University
Kazi & Kazi Tea Estate Limited, the first internationally certified organic tea estate in Bangladesh, recently caught the attention of members from Ohio State University and Indiana University. They visited the single estate garden, located in Tetulia, Panchagarh, from March 12-14 to learn more about Bangladesh’s 100% organic tea garden.
During their visit, the students were impressed by Kazi & Kazi Tea’s commitment to organic farming. The company does not use pesticides or unnatural irrigation, allowing nature to take its course. Through fair labor practices and sustainability initiatives, Kazi & Kazi Tea has positively impacted the lives of workers and the community by providing education, healthcare programs, and employment opportunities for local women.
The visitors were also impressed by the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability, including a reforestation program to combat deforestation in the region. Kazi & Kazi Tea holds several international certifications, such as NOP/USDA, EU, JAS, Rainforest Alliance, Fair Trade, and HACCP.
In addition to visiting the tea garden, officials from the universities also visited the primary school of the Kazi Shaheed Foundation (KSF). The foundation offers various programs, including a cooperative cattle-lending program that has helped members purchase land for their families.
Kazi & Kazi Tea’s approach to tea production serves as a model for sustainable and socially responsible business practices, making a positive impact on the lives of many in the region. Their natural and environmentally friendly farming methods have helped the ecosystem thrive and improved the soil health while reducing the need for harmful pesticides and fertilizers.
