The Sustainable Apparel Forum (SAF) is set to take place on March 16th in Radisson Blu Water Garden, Dhaka, shining a spotlight on sustainable clothing production opportunities in Bangladesh.

Over 60 prominent speakers and 20 exhibitors will showcase green production technologies, with topics on the agenda including circularity, CO2 reductions, climate action, renewable energy, and human rights due diligence.

The SAF has become a significant event for fashion sourcing executives in recent years, with notable personalities, including high government officials, expected to attend.

ESG has become a crucial boardroom topic for sustainability teams at the world’s leading fashion brands, and ongoing regulatory reform means that fashion buyers need a better understanding of the sustainability performance of their supply chains.

Bangladesh is the second-largest garment-sourcing destination globally and has positioned itself as one of the leading green production hubs, with the most LEED-rated factories and a significant factory safety program over the past decade.

The SAF 2023 event brings together clothing manufacturers, government officials, policymakers, green finance professionals, human rights specialists, green production and technology experts, fashion sustainability and sourcing teams, and NGOs working in fashion supply chains. It offers a range of plenaries, seminars, green growth exhibitions, and networking opportunities. The fashion industry is undergoing significant change, with a shift away from voluntary agreements towards hard rules and regulations. Penalties for failing to improve sustainability performance will result in lost business for fashion brands, potentially violating supply chain due diligence laws.

Mostafiz Uddin, the organizer of the SAF, stated that reducing carbon emissions to meet net-zero targets is the current conversation at every major fashion brand. The focus is shifting towards supply chains, with up to 90% of carbon emissions taking place at Tier 3 level.

SAF offers a critical opportunity to explore the challenges in reducing emissions and improving sustainability performance, bringing together key stakeholders, policymakers, and businesses to provide solutions.

SAF 2023 will also explore the social context, including better wages and rights for garment workers, presenting a vision for greener, cleaner, and more ethical supply chains to the outside world.
