Shwapno, Bangladesh’s leading super shop, has announced the removal of the additional 5% VAT, making shopping more affordable for customers. This decision follows discussions between the Supermarket Owners Association and NBR officials, addressing concerns over the 7.5% VAT imposed under the 2025 VAT Amendment Ordinance.

Under the revised VAT structure, supermarkets will now pay 15% VAT but can claim input tax credits, ensuring that customers do not bear additional costs separately. Instead, VAT will be included within product prices, reducing financial pressure on consumers.

He stated, “This will bring more balance to the market, allowing everyone access to safe, nutritious food at fair prices.” He also appreciated the NBR’s recognition of VAT disparities, calling the move a “victory for the entire country.”
