Farmers in Meherpur are facing significant losses as a bumper harvest of cauliflower has led to a sharp drop in prices. With an oversupply and lack of buyers, many vegetables are left to rot in the fields, causing distress among growers.

Rakib Ali, a farmer from Meherpur, shared his struggles, stating that it costs around 25,000 BDT to cultivate cauliflower on one bigha of land. With no buyers, the crops were going to waste, adding to his worries.

Responding to this crisis, Shwapno, a leading superstore, stepped in to support the farmers. On January 2, Shwapno representatives purchased 10,000 cauliflowers directly from Meherpur farmers, providing much-needed relief.

Bijoy Krishna Halder, Deputy Director of the Meherpur Agricultural Extension Department, praised the initiative, saying, “Shwapno’s efforts have provided hope during this challenging time.”
