Walton, a leading air-conditioner brand in Bangladesh, has unveiled new models in its ecOzone series, which are being hailed as the most environmentally-friendly air conditioners globally. These ACs use the R290 refrigerant, a natural hydrocarbon classified as A3, which has minimal environmental impact.
Walton is currently the sole manufacturer and distributor of R290 refrigerant-powered ACs in Bangladesh. The new ecOzone series not only promotes environmental sustainability but also offers high energy efficiency, certified by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
The official launch of the WSI-KRYSTALINE (ecOzone) series took place on Sunday, 15 September 2024, at Walton’s Corporate Office. This event was held in honor of World Ozone Day 2024 and was presided over by Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC’s Managing Director, S M Mahbubul Alam. Distinguished guests attending the ceremony included BSTI Director General S M Ferdaus Alam, Environment Department Director Md. Ziaul Hoque, UNDP Bangladesh Programme Specialist Arif Mohammad Faisal, and BUET Professor Dr. Md. Ali Ahammad Shoukat Choudhury, along with senior Walton officials such as Managing Director of Walton Plaza, Mohammad Rayhan, and Chief Marketing Officer, Ghalib Bin Mohammad.

During the launch, Managing Director S M Mahbubul Alam emphasized Walton’s commitment to manufacturing eco-friendly and energy-efficient products. He highlighted the company’s efforts, in collaboration with Bangladesh’s Environment Ministry, the Department of Environment, and UNDP, in leading initiatives for environmental protection. He also pointed out that Walton is the first company in Bangladesh to introduce ACs featuring the R290 refrigerant. Additionally, he noted that Walton has phased out the use of harmful gases like CFCs and HCFCs in their air conditioners, placing Bangladesh at the forefront of global environmental protection efforts.
Md. Ziaul Hoque, Director of the Department of Environment, commended Walton for being a pioneer in adopting R290 refrigerant technology in Bangladesh. He explained that this cutting-edge eco-friendly technology is used by only a few developed countries, including some in Europe.

Sandip Biswas, Deputy CBO of Walton AC, revealed that Walton’s engineers had designed the ecOzone series with both environmental sustainability and safety in mind. The new ACs come equipped with gas leak safety sensors and advanced cooling features.
Engr. Ariful Islam, Head of Walton Residential AC’s Research & Innovation Department, further elaborated that the Global Warming Potential (GWP) of R290 gas is only 3, compared to 1810 for the previously used R22 gas, making it significantly more environmentally friendly. In addition, the ecOzone series boasts energy-efficient inverter technology, 4D airflow for enhanced room cooling, and Turbo Cool technology that accelerates cooling by 40%.

The ecOzone series currently offers two models: a 1-ton unit priced at Tk 59,290 and a 1.5-ton model priced at Tk 78,780. Customers purchasing these models are also entitled to a one-year replacement warranty and up to a 10-year warranty on the compressor.
