Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC recently marked the inauguration of a substantial 3.3 MWp Rooftop Solar project, financed by the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL).
The event, held at Walton’s cutting-edge manufacturing plant in Chandra on November 11, 2023, celebrated this significant milestone, as mentioned in a press release.
The ceremony, led by Sharifa Khan, Senior Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) and Chairman of IDCOL, saw the official launch of the project. Alongside Khan were key figures including Alamgir Morshed, Executive Director & CEO of IDCOL, Shamsul Alam, Chairman of Walton, Michael Sumser, Country Director of KfW for Bangladesh & Nepal, Md. Enamul Karim Pavel, Head of Renewable Energy at IDCOL, and M. Maftun Ahmed, Company Secretary of IDCOL, alongside officials from IDCOL, KfW, and Walton.
Sharifa Khan praised Walton for its strides in embracing energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies, emphasizing their role in boosting the global profile of Bangladeshi products.

Michael Sumser also expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration between KfW and IDCOL, especially in propelling renewable energy initiatives in Bangladesh, highlighting the support from companies like Walton.
S M Shamsul conveyed gratitude to IDCOL for their guidance and assistance in executing the project. He reaffirmed Walton’s commitment to adopting renewable energy tech and enhancing energy efficiency, expressing the intent to continue their partnership with IDCOL.

Alamgir Morshed, CEO of IDCOL, emphasized their provision of not only financial solutions but also technical aid for rooftop solar projects. He highlighted the importance of the government’s Net Metering Guideline (NEM) to facilitate such initiatives, aligning with the goal of achieving a significant portion of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
