Walton has been awarded the first prize of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial Award-2022, recognizing its exceptional contributions to the national economy and the industrial sector.

In the hi-tech industries category, Walton claimed the top spot based on its annual turnover, production of import-substitute products, use of locally sourced raw materials, job creation, CSR initiatives, responsible land use, and environmental protection, according to a press release.

A total of 12 industrial establishments, including Walton, received the ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Industrial Award-2022’ in six different categories at a ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Tuesday, October 3.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin, attending as the chief guest, presented a golden crest and a certificate of honor to S M Shamsul Alam, Vice-Chairman of Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC.

Among other dignitaries, Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, and President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Mahbubul Alam were present as special guests.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun presided over the event, while Zakia Sultana, Senior Secretary of the Industries Ministry, delivered a welcome speech.

The Bangabandhu Industrial Award was established by the Ministry of Industries to honor the contributions of institutions in the industrial sector, create incentives, and promote creativity. This is the second time the award has been presented.

S M Mahbubul Alam, Director of Walton Hi-Tech Industries, delivered a speech on behalf of the industrialists, paying tribute to the life and work of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. He expressed gratitude for the award and stated, “Walton has been striving to make the country economically self-sufficient from its inception. Now, Walton is exporting ‘Made in Bangladesh’ labeled products to more than 40 countries, including Europe and America. We are earning foreign currency by exporting products that were once imported. This remarkable achievement has been made possible with the help of the government’s industry-friendly policies, and we hope that the government’s support for industrial policy will continue.”

The first-place winner of the award received Tk3 lakh and a golden crest weighing 25 grams of gold. The second-place recipient was awarded Tk2 lakh and a golden crest of 18 grams of gold, while the third-place winner received Tk1 lakh and a golden crest weighing 15 grams of gold. All awardees were also presented with certificates of honor.
