Zaved Akhtar has been elected as the new Chairman of the board of directors of Unilever Bangladesh Ltd, a prominent fast-moving consumer goods company in the country, effective from August 28, 2023. The unanimous decision was made during the company’s 194th board meeting held on August 27.
Currently serving as the CEO and Managing Director of the company, Akhtar will succeed Kedar Lele, who has held the position of Chairman since 2020. In his new role as Chairman, Akhtar will also continue to lead the Bangladesh business as Managing Director.
In addition to his role as Chairman, Zaved Akhtar will become a member of the Unilever South Asia Leadership Team, further contributing to the company’s regional initiatives and strategies.
Rohit Jawa, President of Unilever for South Asia and CEO and Managing Director of Hindustan Unilever Limited, expressed his gratitude to Zaved for his exceptional leadership in the Bangladesh business. He acknowledged Akhtar’s efforts in strengthening business outcomes, promoting superior brands for consumers, and aligning with Unilever’s Compass Commitments.

Rohit Jawa also welcomed Zaved to the Unilever South Asia Leadership Team, expressing confidence in his ability to lead Unilever Bangladesh and contribute to the country’s growth journey.
Zaved Akhtar’s career with Unilever Bangladesh began in 2000, and he has since held various roles in local, regional, and international capacities over two decades. Having completed multiple successful international assignments, Akhtar was appointed CEO and Managing Director of Unilever Bangladesh in 2021.
He is a graduate of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Dhaka University and has received training from institutions such as IIM Ahmedabad in India and INSEAD in Singapore.
