Akij Bashir Group started a new journey with 16 types of business
After the death of Akij Group founder Sheikh Bashir Uddin, his 10 sons inherited the business of Akij Group. With a large part of that business, the journey started under the new name ‘Akij Bashir Group’. Akij Uddin’s son Sheikh Bashir Uddin named the new group by adding his father’s name and his own name.
For so long, Sheikh Bashir Uddin was associated with the business management of Akij Group through inheritance. Now separated from there, he has announced the start of business activities under his own name under his father’s and his own name. Sheikh Bashir Uddin will manage the business under this new name from now on. The group’s relaunch was officially announced yesterday at the five-star hotel Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden in the capital.
It was informed on the occasion that Akij Bashir Group has 16 types of business including ceramics, sanitary and bathware, tableware, particle board, jute, steel, tea. The amount of these businesses in the year is about 5 thousand crore tk. The managing director of the company, Sheikh Bashir Uddin, appeared on the stage of the announcement of the new group’s launch, accompanied by his mother on a Vespa motorcycle used by his father, Sheikh Akij Uddin. At this time, he said that his mother Monowara Begum will serve as the chairman of the new group.

Sheikh Bashir Uddin said, ‘My father did not have much formal education. But he studied at the university of life. Today our business is still influenced by that teaching of father. And today I am happy to start the journey of the business under the new name in the presence of my mother. But everything in our business is due to father Sheikh Akij Uddin.’
Group chairman Monowara Begum said on the occasion, ‘I want all my children to achieve success. But no boy can handle all the business alone. For this, the workers who work in the organization, they will work hard with honesty and dedication to take the business forward. I pray for everyone, including my son, that everyone is healthy.’
At one stage of the program, Sheikh Bashir Uddin asked his mother about the various business activities done by his father Akij Uddin on his Vespa motorcycle and how many times he had accidents with this Vespa. Then Monowara Begum said, he was always busy with business. And he (Akij Uddin) had an accident about 10 to 12 times with the Vespa. After hearing this information from the mother, Sheikh Bashir Uddin advised everyone to be careful on the road.
When Sheikh Bashir Uddin was asked about Akij leaving the group and running a business under a separate name, he told Prothom Alo, ‘All our brothers’ businesses are growing now. As the second generation after father, we have taken over the business. Now our children have also started looking after the business. This decision has been taken to keep the impression of the leadership of the second generation at this time when the third generation is coming to the leadership.

Bashir Uddin Biswas said, as a result, the business will expand and become stronger. Other brothers may decide to do the same in the future. He thinks that everyone will give importance to modernizing the business while keeping the memory of his father intact.
Bashir Uddin’s elder brother, founder and chief executive of Akij FMCG Limited Sheikh Aziz Uddin said, ‘We are all brothers and father’s business tradition and are moving forward. There have been many variations at various times in this journey, this is a part of it. Hopefully, Akij Bashir’s group will go further in the future keeping father’s reputation intact.’
Sheikh Amin Uddin, another brother of Bashir Uddin was also present at the event. Among the senior officials of Akij Bashir Group, Kazi Khalid Mahmud, MR Jamil, Hossain Iraj, Md. Khorshed Alam and Dilruba Sharmin Khan and others.
