Belgian Queen Mathilde visits Fakir Apparels

She visited to observe the advancements made by Fakir Apparels, a distinguished garment manufacturing company with a global presence, located in Bangladesh.

The Queen of the Belgians, Mathilde, who is also an advocate for the United Nations Secretary-General’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), visited Fakir Apparels, Bangladesh’s largest export-oriented textile composite knit manufacturing company located in Fatullah, Narayanganj. As part of her 3-day visit in Bangladesh, she was interested in seeing the progress made by Fakir Apparels as a top garment manufacturing company with a global presence, according to a press release.

During the visit, Fakir Maniruzzaman, Managing Director; Fakir Nafizuzzaman, Deputy Managing Director; Monjarin Zaman, Director; and Fakir Rafsanuzzaman, Director; along with Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Mohammad Hatem, Executive President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), and Bakhtiar Uddin Ahmed, COO of Fakir Apparels, accompanied the Queen.

Fakir Apparels has already made substantial progress towards sustainability, with 15% of their energy usage coming from renewable sources and 15% of their products made from recycled materials. They aim to shift 100% of their energy dependency to renewable sources and 100% of their products to be made of recycled materials by 2030. The company also implements a zero-climate impact dyeing process, water efficiency, and a balanced 55:50 men-to-women employee ratio in accordance with SDG 5 Gender Equality. Additionally, the company prioritizes employee development through career progression programs aligned with SDG 4 Quality Education and provides a supportive work environment with mental health awareness campaigns, counseling sessions, and biodegradable sanitary napkins, along with 112 days of fully paid maternity leave and designated breastfeeding areas.

Fakir Nafizuzzaman, DMD of Fakir Apparels, stated that this visit provided an opportunity to showcase their strengths as a garment factory in Bangladesh and emphasized their commitment to creating a world-class working environment. Monjarin Zaman, Director of Fakir Apparels, expressed his excitement for the company to showcase their progress in front of the Queen.
