BREB bill payments now more convenient through Nagad

Rural residents can now easily settle their postpaid bills with the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) using the Nagad app. This comes after a partnership agreement between Nagad, a leading mobile financial service provider, and BREB was signed at a five-star hotel in Dhaka.

The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of key figures, including BREB Chairman Md Selim Uddin, BREB Member (Finance) Dipankar Biswas, Directorate General (Additional Responsibilities) of Directorate of Posts Tarun Kanti Sikder, and Nagad Ltd.’s Founder and Managing Director, Tanvir A Mishuk. Top officials from both organizations were also present at the event, with BREB Secretary Hasina Begum and Nagad’s Executive Director Md Shafayet Alam signing the agreement.

This partnership aims to make it easier for rural communities to manage their electricity bills through digital transactions, ensuring hassle-free financial activities. Nagad, a state-owned mobile financial service provider, has been a pioneer in introducing charge-free bill payments in Bangladesh, and it continues to focus on customer-centric initiatives. This latest service allows BREB subscribers to make bill payments through the Nagad app.

To utilize this service, customers need to access the Nagad app, select “Bill Pay,” choose the “Electricity” option, and opt for “REB Post Paid” from the biller list. Notably, customers will not be charged for their first four bill payments using this service.

Currently, this service covers postpaid bills for 18 Palli Bidyut Samity under BREB, including Gazipur, Dhaka, Sylhet, Tangail, Mymensingh, Barishal, Jhenaidah, Faridpur, Brahmanbaria, Cox’s Bazar, Narayanganj, Bhola, Sunamganj, Jashore, and Rajshahi. Nagad plans to expand this service to include all other Samity in the near future.

BREB Chairman Md. Selim Uddin expressed his optimism about the partnership, stating that it has the potential to provide services to 80% of Bangladesh’s electricity consumers. He hopes that Nagad’s services will soon cover all Palli Bidyut Samity.

Tarun Kanti Sikder, from the Directorate of Posts, noted the growing digital transformation in Bangladesh, with Nagad being a prime example of this shift. The collaboration is expected to bring more services directly to marginalized communities.

Tanvir A Mishuk, Founder and Managing Director of Nagad Limited, emphasized the importance of rural electrification in Bangladesh’s digital transformation and expressed a commitment to collaborating with institutions working with marginalized communities.
